The corn\u00adflower is a sym\u00adbol of Prus\u00adsia. It was the favou\u00adri\u00adte flower of the Prus\u00adsi\u00adan Queen Loui\u00adse (1776\u20131810), the cons\u00adort of King Fre\u00adde\u00adrick Wil\u00adliam III (1770\u20131840).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regal cou\u00adple enjoy\u00aded gre\u00adat favour among their sub\u00adjects, lea\u00adding almost the life of com\u00admon\u00aders in con\u00adtrast to the cus\u00adtoms at the court of the pre\u00adde\u00adces\u00adsor, Fre\u00adde\u00adrick Wil\u00adliam II, who had num\u00ade\u00adrous affairs and was hea\u00advi\u00adly in debt when he died. Their sum\u00admer resi\u00addence, Schlo\u00df Paretz<\/a>, 20 km away from Potsdam\u2019s city cent\u00adre, offers an impres\u00adsi\u00adon of the pri\u00adva\u00adte life of the roy\u00adal couple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despi\u00adte the fact that, with his neu\u00adtra\u00adli\u00adty poli\u00adcy, Fre\u00adde\u00adrick Wil\u00adliam III tried to stay out of the major Euro\u00adpean con\u00adflict of his times, the fight against domi\u00adna\u00adti\u00adon by France under Napo\u00adle\u00adon, Prus\u00adsia took a body blow in 1806 in the batt\u00adle near Jena and Auer\u00adstedt. French tro\u00adops advan\u00adced on Ber\u00adlin, sto\u00adle the qua\u00addri\u00adga from the Bran\u00adden\u00adburg Gate and forced the roy\u00adal cou\u00adple to with\u00addraw to K\u00f6nigs\u00adberg. As K\u00f6nigs\u00adberg too came under thre\u00adat, the roy\u00adal fami\u00adly fled to Memel, in the extre\u00adme north-eastern cor\u00adner of Prussia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prus\u00adsia was exclu\u00added from the sub\u00adse\u00adquent peace talks bet\u00adween France and Rus\u00adsia held in the Prus\u00adsi\u00adan town of Til\u00adsit, alt\u00adhough its fate was also deci\u00added the\u00adre. Offi\u00adci\u00adal talks were the\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre not possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nthis situa\u00adti\u00adon, Queen Loui\u00adse arran\u00adged an encoun\u00adter with Napo\u00adle\u00adon, in\nwhich she pas\u00adsio\u00adna\u00adte\u00adly made the case for her coun\u00adtry in the hopes of\nachie\u00adving less strin\u00adgent peace terms. Even if her efforts pro\u00adved\nfruit\u00adless, the endea\u00advours she made remain\u00aded unf\u00ador\u00adgot\u00adten and are the\nbasis for the myths sur\u00adroun\u00adding her. Her ear\u00adly death at the age of\nonly 34 \u2013 the flight took a con\u00adsidera\u00adble toll on her health \u2013 was\na con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adto\u00adry fac\u00adtor. She did not live to expe\u00adri\u00adence the libe\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon\nof Prus\u00adsia and Euro\u00adpe from the yoke of Napo\u00adle\u00adon in 1815.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
